SMART MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY
The BDVA Smart Manufacturing Industry (SMI) subgroup aims at identifying opportunities and challenges for implementing the BDVA SRIA technical and non-technical challenges in Manufacturing Industry. In the 2018 activities, the SMI subgroup issued a discussion paper where the five technical challenges of the BDVA SRIA reference model have been interpreted in the light of Connected Factories (EFFRA European factories of the Future Research Association) 2025 scenarios and pathways, namely Autonomous, Hyper-connected and Collaborative Product-Service Factories of the Future.
In 2019 edition of the discussion paper, the focus is more to provide recommendations for Digital Europe Program 2021-2027 through: a business validation of the technical priorities by a set of Industrial Pilot cases mostly, but not exclusively, coming from the BOOST 4.0 (Big Data for Factories) BDVA Lighthouse project, a holistic consideration of non-technical challenges for the full and ethical adoption of Big Data Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing and an extension of the five BDVA SRIA technical challenges towards the implementation of a B2B Trusted Data Network, materializing Data Economy and Data Sovereignty principles in Manufacturing Industry scenarios. In parallel to this, another BDVA working group is elaborating a position paper regarding “TOWARDS A EUROPEAN DATA SHARING SPACE: Enabling data exchange and unlocking AI potential” where Data Spaces, Data Platforms and Data Ecosystems are converging in a synergic way towards a common European vision of Data Sharing in B2B, B2C and B2G scenarios.
The workshop aims at interpreting the BDVA Data Sharing position paper and the EC communication “Towards a common European Data Space” with the perspective of the Manufacturing Industry, providing the SMI subgroup and the editorial team of its 2019 discussion paper with new opportunities and challenges for next EU R&I framework programmes, Horizon Europe and Digital Europe. The session is complemented by a couple of real cases providing direct links with challenges elaborated in the paper.
